Located in the district of North York, Armour Heights is a community with a lot of history and character. Its boundaries are set by the Don River to the north and Wilson Avenue to the south, and it is part of the Lansing-Westgate neighborhood in Toronto.

The plans to transform the land into an upscale neighborhood started in 1911, when Colonel Frederick Burton Robins, a very successful real estate speculator, purchased Armour farm. However, his intentions to build Armour Heights were put on hold during World War One. He decided to donate part of his land to the Royal Canadian Airforce, who will later use it as a training school for their pilots. On an interesting note, Armour Heights was a regular stop for aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart.
History of Armour Heights
Later on, the airfield was used by Bishop-Barker Aeroplanes Limited, a passenger air service company owned by hardened war heroes after the war. The company didn´t last long, mostly because of financial problems and a serious airplane crash. The land was again taken by the Canadian air force in 1942, and it still houses the Canadian Forces College to this day.
As part of a development effort by the city of Toronto, Armour Heights was cut in half to build the Highway 401. Due to an increase of urban activity, the farmland started to recede and many middle-class suburban housing projects began sprouting during the 70s, welcoming a great influx of people of Jewish descent.
Nowadays, 12% of the population in Armour Heights has Jewish roots, and the neighborhood holds a host of synagogues and Toronto’s Holocaust Memorial.
