ABOUT DOWNSVIEW
Named after the oldest farm established in the area, Downsview is a neighborhood located in the district of North York. It is set in the northern limit of Toronto, Ontario, and extends beyond the intersection of Dufferin Street and Sheppard Avenue.

The area remained as a prosper, agricultural community for more than a century. During that time, the only facilities in the region were a school, a general store, a post office, and a church. The latter being the center of the neighborhood.
The first signs of industrialization came in 1929 when William De Havilland built the first manufacturing facility in the area. This facility experienced fast growth during World War II as it became the primary supplier of aircraft. Years later, in 1994, it was sold to Bombardier Aerospace to manufacture and test airplanes. 
The post-war period was a time for the region’s development. In the 1950s, the local government created Downsview Complex, which housed a large number of provincial offices, along with an Ontario Police detachment.
The majority of residential buildings was also built right after the war.
Downsview is home to several landmarks that have become Toronto’s historical Heritage Property. Some of these iconic places include The George Jackson House -a former renowned farmhouse, and the Downsview United Church. The Jane-Exbury Towers are also an architectural jewel straight from Toronto´s own Uno Prii.
Nowadays, Downsview is a combination of industrial activity and residential areas. The neighborhood continues to welcome newcomers and expands with the creation of new houses and companies.
