ABOUT ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT
The Entertainment District is a neighborhood in The City of Toronto. It is located in the downtown of the city around King Street West, between University and Spadina Avenue.
The zone homes a complete array of cultural centers, theaters, performing art centers, and different family attractions.

Most of the nightclubs of the city are located here too. It has been officially designated as an entertainment hub in the Toronto area.
However, it does not include several important centers and theaters like the Ed Mirvish Theatre or the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts.
The place started to become a notable place for entertainment in the early nineties with the first night clubs arriving in the early 1980s. 
Today’s Entertainment District is on the old location of Garment District which was an industrial neighborhood during the mid 20th century.
At that time, the area didn’t have many residents and was mostly the location for textile and fashion industries. It has been the place for the Royal Alexandra Theatre considered the oldest theatre in North America operating continuously since 1907.
The old buildings of the manufacturing industries of the area became the functioning place for other businesses in the 1970s. At that time, companies left the neighborhood and in 1976 CN Tower opened its doors attracting tourists to the zone.
By the mid-nineties, the neighborhood had become one of the largest nightclub areas in the continent including bars and restaurants.
However, the population increase of the city and its condo boom affected the area transforming its character. New condominium towers and hotels signal what urban experts consider an irreversible trend towards the disappearance of Toronto’s clubland.
