Kensington Market is a neighborhood in Toronto known for its distinctive and colorful lifestyle. This commercial area extends along Augusta Avenue, Kensington Avenue, Nassau Street, and Baldwin Street. It borders with College Street to the north, Dundas Street to the south, Bathurst Street to the west, and Spadina Avenue to the east.

The region belonged to George Taylor Denison, a retired military man that served in the Canadian Militia. He used the land to command his troops in the Upper Canada Rebellion. The Denison family property, Bellevue House, was located in what we know today as Kensington Market.
The region developed into a suburban area in the 1950s to provide the growing population with housing alternatives. Bellevue House was divided into small plots of land where they built homes for the growing Jewish community in the area.
After the Second World War, the immigrant population diversified, which resulted in the construction of numerous small Victorian houses. Most of the properties have served as home to thousands of immigrants coming from different
parts of the world such as the Caribbean, Asia, Chile, Sudan, Central America, Iran, Somalia, and many others.
