My name’s Dani, and I’m the one who started Matrix Locksmith. People usually expect a neat business pitch here, but honestly, this is more personal than that. Matrix is more than a livelihood for me, it’s something I’ve poured my whole heart into over the years. It’s become part of my life and my family’s life too.

How Did it All Start?

Back in 2008, I wrapped up my Diploma in Locksmith Skilled Trades at Ashworth University. At the time, I wasn’t really thinking about where it would all lead to, I just knew working with my hands was always a wonderful experience. I loved taking things apart, putting them back together, and figuring out the little puzzles that most people don’t even notice in everyday life.

Locks might seem pretty ordinary, but the truth is, every call has its own story. One family stuck outside with kids crying inside, someone stranded in a cold parking lot because the car won’t start, or a business owner shaken after a break-in and desperate to feel secure again. Those weren’t just “jobs” to me. I liked being the guy who could show up, calm the situation, and actually fix the problem immediately.

A Leap to Canada

A few years later, life took a big turn. My family and I made the decision to move to Canada. It was a challenge because we were leaving behind everything familiar: friends, routines, the comfort of knowing how things worked. But Canada offered something we were searching for. A sense of safety. A quieter life. A place where we could grow together. Looking back now, that choice changed everything for us, and for this business too.

By 2012, I decided to start my own business here in Richmond Hill. That’s how Matrix Locksmith came to life. No big investors, no marketing teams, just me, a van, a few tools, and a lot of determination to do right by the people who called.

My Partner Since Day One

I can’t talk about the business without talking about my wife, Helen. From day one she’s been the quiet engine behind everything. If you’ve ever called our office, chances are you’ve talked to her. She makes sure every customer gets a kind response, every detail is tracked, and frankly, she keeps me sane. She’s not just “helping with the business.” She’s part of the reason we’ve been able to grow.

We also have three kids. They’re still young, but I hope that one day they might step into this world too. However, there’s no pressure. I want them to find their own passions, but I like to think that the values we’ve built here, values honesty and trust, are things worth passing down.

Growing From One Man to a Team

When I started the business I just had a single phone, a single van, and one pair of hands. I’d get a call in the middle of the night, jump out of bed, and head across town to help someone who was locked out of their home. The days were long, sometimes the nights too, but little by little, people started to notice. They’d recommend me to neighbors, property managers started calling, and then small businesses gave me a shot.

Fast forward to today, and Matrix Locksmith isn’t just me anymore. We’ve got a solid team. I personally train every locksmith who joins us, because I want to be sure they not only know the technical side, but also the way we treat people. You can learn how to change a lock in a hundred different ways, but knowing how to talk to someone who’s panicked because they’re locked out of their house, that takes patience, empathy, and practice.

Our Growth in Expertise

In the early days, most of what I did was straightforward: helping people locked out of their homes, replacing keys, repairing ignitions, or rekeying locks. That’s still a big part of what we do, but as our customers asked for more, we expanded.

Automotive Locksmithing – Car key replacements, ignition repairs, and key programming for vehicles of different makes and models. I can’t count how many times we’ve rescued someone stranded in a parking lot late at night.

Residential Locksmithing – Changing door locks, installing smart locks, or helping families get back inside when they’re locked out. For me, nothing feels better than seeing the relief on someone’s face when they’re safely back inside their home.

Commercial Locksmithing – From office lockouts to setting up master key systems, we’ve helped small shops and big buildings alike. Businesses can’t afford downtime, so we make sure their security is solid.

As time went on, we started tackling more specialized services. Safes, multipoint locking systems, and advanced access control setups became part of our daily work. Multipoint locks, especially, are something few locksmiths in Canada touch, but we’ve made it a specialty. Property managers often call us for the “small things” too, like mailbox locks, file cabinets, or closet security.

On the technology side, we’ve embraced smart security. Keypads, smart locks, CCTV systems, mag locks, and electric strikes, these are no longer extras, they’re becoming the new standard. And we’ve stayed ahead so that our customers don’t have to worry about outdated systems.

We also care a lot about accessibility. Installing automatic door operators, handicap-access buttons, and push bars isn’t just about codes and compliance, it’s about making spaces safer and more welcoming for everyone.

What We Stand For

Our motto has always been: “Your Security is Our Success.” It might sound simple, but it’s the truth. Our success depends on how safe and secure we make people feel.

We’ve also made it part of our mission to support seniors and veterans. We offer discounts, yes, but it’s more than that. My own family has veterans, and I know the sacrifices that come with service. Supporting them isn’t charity, it’s respect.
